*Before beginning to write, the writer must ask "Why am I writing?", and what is my purpose for the writing task at hand.
*There are various types of writing.
* Creative writing is meant to entertain by expressing thoughts, feelings and emotions rather than to simply convey information.
*Descriptive writing is meant to help the reader visualize a person, place, or thing in such a way that the reader can visualize the topic because the writer uses great descriptions throughout his writing.
*Expository writing is meant to inform, explain, describe, or define in detail a particular topic.
*Narrative writing tells, in detail, a particular story.
*With persuasive writing, the goal of the writer is to try and convince people to agree with his/her opinion or belief.
*The purpose of technical writing is to present information that helps the reader solve a particular problem. Technical writers write, and edit manuals, web pages, lab reports, newsletters, and many other kinds of professional documents.
*Poetry expresses the feeling of the writer, and there are many forms of poetry.
People write letters for various purposes. Business letters are written for one purpose and friendly letters are written for another. Parts of a business letter are different than parts of a friendly letter.
*When writing, authors often describe something by comparing it with something else. This is called figurative language, and there are many types of figurative language.
