Interesting Facts about the History of the French and Indian War

*The French and Indian War was a seven year war (1754 -1763) between Great Britain fighting with the American colonies against the French and their Indian allies.

*Virginia's governor sent George Washington to evict the French from Fort Duquesne.

General Edward Braddock, a British general, was wounded in the battle at Fort Duquesne, and died four days later from a mortal wound.

*The French forces were too strong for George Washington, and he retreated and constructed Fort Necessity. Fort Necessity was overcome by French soldiers and their Indian allies on July 3, 1754, the start of the French and Indian War.

*The Treaty of Paris signed on February 10, 1763 officially ended the French and Indian War.

*The French, after their defeat,lost their lands to Canada and the American midwest.
