*The Connecticut Colony was founded in 1636 by Thomas Hooker.

* The word Connecticut comes from an Algonquin Indian (Quinnehtukqut) word meaning "long river place".

*The New Hampshire Colony was founded in 1623 by John Wheelwright.

*New Hampshire was named after the English County of Hampshire.

*The Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded in 1620 by the owners of the Massachusetts Bay Company.

*Massachusetts comes from an indian word - Massachusett - which meant "at or about the great hill".
